Bladder Issues
Bladder issues can occur in people of all ages and genders. In fact, 30-50% of people experience bladder leakage at some point in their life. However, just because bladder problems are common does not mean they are normal and you shouldn’t have to “just live with it”.
Here are some of the problems that people can get help for with pelvic floor physical therapy:
Stress Urinary Incontinence: loss of bladder control or leakage with physical activity such as coughing, laughing, jumping, running, lifting, etc.
Urge Urinary Incontinence: you have an accident with a sudden, intense urge to urinate
Urinary Urgency: a sudden, intense urge to urinate that is difficult or impossible to delay
Urinary Frequency: you feel like you have to pee way too often
Incomplete Bladder Emptying: you have the feeling that you are not able to fully empty your bladder
Interstitial Cystitis (IC) or Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS): a persistent condition that causes pain and discomfort in the bladder and pelvic region
Frequent nighttime bathroom trips
Dysuria: painful urination
Pain after urinating
Chronic Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) or you feel like you have UTI but you test negative
Treatments vary depending on your individual symptoms and goals but often include bladder re-training, manual therapy, strength and endurance exercises, relaxation and stretching exercises, education, and/or nervous system regulation training.
“Today I just finished an appointment with Bethany Hansen LLC. I am so, so grateful that I found her. I had never even heard of pelvic health physical therapy. I basically had given up on healthcare for helping me with my needs. I heard a podcast on pelvic physical therapy for women. I thought I'm going to give this a try. Best thing I could have ever done for myself. I am so grateful I found her. She has taught me and helped me to retrain my brain. Thank you Bethany.. And I'm going to be straight forward on this comment .I was struggling with going to the bathroom every 30 minutes. I knew this was not normal but for years nobody could help me. There were years that I was put on drugs which did not work so I had basically given up until I heard about physical therapy. I was a little worried so I did a little research and chose Bethany. So yes there is help. No, you don't need to take drugs or I didn't need to take drugs to help this condition. I now have the tools to work on it on my own and I am seeing great success! Once again, thank you, Bethany.” -C.A.
“Thank you Dr. Hansen for such a professional, comprehensive, and effective plan. I had been struggling with postnatal urinary incontinence while running; something that was very frustrating for me and was keeping me from running. She completely resolved the problem for me.” -S.A.
